New Music Tuesday 470

One of the best New Music Tuesday's in quite a while. Three albums I'd like my readers to check out.

Okkervil River: The Silver Gymnasium | One of my favorite lyric-centered bands playing.

Neko Case: The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You | One of my favorite voices and songwriters going. Her other albums are on sale too! Check out Fox Confessor Brings the Flood & Middle Cyclone ($5.99 each).

Volcano Choir: Repave | Creative. Imaginative.

I should mention, though many have had it for a couple of weeks, that Derek Webb's new album, I Was Wrong, I'm Sorry & I Love You is officially out today and available at Amazon. I've been enjoying it.

Okkervil River | Stream The Silver Gymnasium

New album from Okkervil River, The Silver Gymnasium (Amazon, out 9/3), is streaming free right now. This is one of my favorite bands working. Some of the best songwriting around from frontman Will Sheff. I'm halfway through the stream right now and it's really good so far.

Get a taste of the new album from Sheff's open mic night. Or just listen here to open track, "It Was My Season"...

Shearwater | "Breaking the Yearlings"

Shearwater is one of my favorite bands. I first discovered them because frontman, Jonathan Meiburg, played with Okkervil River. Post-Okkervil Meiburg & Shearwater are now a force of their own. Their last three full-length albums, the Island Arc trilogy, are wonderful: Golden Archipelago, Rook, and Palo Santo. Their new album, Animal Joy, drops on Valentine's Day. More at their new label, Sub Pop.

Check out "Breaking the Yearlings" and the new sound of Shearwater...

New Albums Out Today

Some really outstanding new albums out today...

Okkervil River | "Wake & Be Fine"

I'm a big Okkervil River fan. Some of the most creative indie music around. Lyrically rich. New album, I Am Very Far, drops in May. I can't say enough how much I love their albums: Black Sheep Boy (and Appendix), The Stage Names, The Stand Ins. Here's the official video for "Wake and Be Fine" off their new album (via)...

Music Monday 1.17.11

The Low Anthem had my #5 album of 2009 called O My God, Charlie Darwin. Their new album, Smart Flesh, comes out on February 22nd. Here they are singing "Ghost Woman Blues" on Letterman. What a great band...

Okkervil River was the indie band that in many ways started my love for indie music. They were the first indie band I saw in concert a few years back because of their The Stage Names album. Their new album, I Am Very Far, is still very far off (May 10th) but it's great to get a listen to what's coming via Fallon (and a little AC Newman)...
