Okkervil River | Stream The Silver Gymnasium

New album from Okkervil River, The Silver Gymnasium (Amazon, out 9/3), is streaming free right now. This is one of my favorite bands working. Some of the best songwriting around from frontman Will Sheff. I'm halfway through the stream right now and it's really good so far.

Okkervil River | Open Mic Night

This made me smile. Will Sheff/Okkervil River (from Meridian, NH) reuinites with childhood friend Aaron Johnson and plays open mic nights at various locations around New England to introduce the new song, "Down Down The Deep River" from Okkervil River's new album The Silver Gymnasium.

Shearwater | "Breaking the Yearlings"

Shearwater is one of my favorite bands. I first discovered them because frontman, Jonathan Meiburg, played with Okkervil River. Post-Okkervil Meiburg & Shearwater are now a force of their own. Their last three full-length albums, the Island Arc trilogy, are wonderful: Golden Archipelago, Rook, and Palo Santo. Their new album, Animal Joy, drops on Valentine's Day. Okkervil River was the indie band that in many ways started my love for indie music. They were the first indie band I saw in concert a few years back because of their The Stage Names album. Their new album, I Am Very Far, is still very far off (May 10th) but it's great to get a listen to what's coming via Fallon (and a little AC Newman)...
